The Centennial West Clean Line project will take advantage of direct current (DC) technology. Used for decades around the world, DC power lines are more efficient at moving energy over long distances than comparable alternating current (AC) lines. To take advantage of the region’s solar resources, the Centennial West Clean Line team is exploring the possibility of a mid-point converter station in western Arizona. Direct current transmission lines projects, like the Centennial West Clean Line, require converter stations to change AC power from generators to DC power capable of flowing along the line. Adding a connection point for solar energy would lead to new investment in rural Arizona counties and more work for Arizona manufacturers.
